Singer-Songwriter-Instrumentalist
Born/raised in Chicago and currently in Ventura County, Southern
California, USA. I spent quite a few years in Wichita, Ks.
through 1970's and 80's.
Many years experience in studios and on stage.
Primary forms of musical styles have been R&B and Jazz but I
can dabble in other styles as well such as light Rock, New Age or
Country.
Instruments include voice, guitar, bass, keyboards and drum
programming. I can read chord charts and understand music
notation but not a great sight-reader.
I feel pretty good about my arranging, production and music
mixing skills also.
The notable things I have done in recent past include two performances at Borders Bookstore in Thousand Oaks, CA. and two appearances on TV in the Dave and Bob KTVA talent show.
There is an unwritten rule "Until you're somebody , you're nobody" that pretty-well sums up the journey to success in the entertainment industry. It's another one of those 'Catch-22' situations similar to other circumstances such as trying to get a job but no one wants to hire you because you don't have any job experience or trying to get a credit card but banks don't want to give you one because you don't have a credit history. The bottom-line to this has to do with trying to draw upon past successes before being given a chance to be successful at some new opportunity.
My music history is not filled with wonderful stories of playing venues such as Carnegie Hall or the Hollywood Bowl. Nor can I talk about going on tour as a backup musician for some great music artist who's name you will recognize. Sure I have played many many gigs in nightclubs, parks, wedding receptions, etc. but they're not worth mentioning. I am considered a very good songwriter though so maybe one day you will hear some of my songs being performed by someone with real success in entertainment.
My story is about a rather normal person who has never given up on his artistic expression while he was also doing all the things that normal people do such as work, raise a family, etc. Through the years I have run into people I know, but haven't seen in a while, and they would ask me if I still play music. I always tell them I still do because I haven't yet found a good enough reason to stop doing so. Having said that I hope I can inspire people to continue doing something they love to do and wish they could make a living doing it. Because in a world where so many people make a living doing things they don't like we all have to realize the impact this has on happiness in society as a whole.
My interest in technical things was always as strong as my interest in music so I chose to study electronics and obtained a degree in electrical engineering after being discharged as an electronics technician from the U.S. Air Force. Currently I work as an engineer for DTS, Inc. the surround sound company whose name you see on DVD's and at the movie theater. In the past I have worked as a design engineer for companies such as Alesis Studio Electronics where I was involved in many products such as the ADAT, Quadraverb II, Quadrasynth, NanoCompressor and the Point 7 speakers.
